CHAROTTE, NC - Lynsi Pierce drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift UNC Greensboro past Mount St. Mary's 3-2 in opening day action from the 49er Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte, Friday.

Pierce knocked in the game-winning run on a groundout to second. Pierce (6-0) also pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. She helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 from the plate with a run and an RBI.

Jennifer Hubbard went 1-for-3 with a run scored and drove in a run, while Vanessa Massie added a hit and an RBI in the winning effort.

Mount (1-4) hurler Maria Lutz (1-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts. Lutz and Eileen Williams each recorded a hit and an RBI in the loss.

The two teams each grabbed the lead in the first six innings before UNC Greensboro (15-6) rallied in the bottom of the final frame to come away with its 15th victory of the year.

After Mount St. Mary's took a 2-1 advantage with two runs in the sixth, UNC Greensboro plated two runs in the seventh for the win.

Joni Gomez started the inning with a single up the middle before coming around to score on Hubbard's double to center and knotting the game at 1. Hubbard advanced to third on a passed ball and then touched home with the game-winning run on Pierce's RBI groundout.

UNC Greensboro got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the bottom of the second. Pierce started the inning with a triple to center and scored on a Massie single up the middle.

In the sixth, the Mount answered with two runs to take a one-run edge. Lutz plated Sarah Ramsburg on a single to center to tie the game at 1. Williams singled down the right field line and  Danyale Goode touched home for the 2-1 lead.

UNC Greensboro loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with one out. Mount St. Mary's got out of the frame after a force out at the plate and a strikeout.

The Spartans will continue action from the 49er Classic on Saturday with games against James Madison and Charlotte.
