UNC Greensboro Baseball Opens up 2005 Season with a 5-1 win over Delaware

GREENSBORO, NC – Junior pitcher Chris Mason (1-0) tossed seven innings, allowing two hits, while striking out a career-high 10 batters as the UNC Greensboro baseball team opened up the 2005 season with a 5-1 win over Delaware on Friday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Spartans have won six straight season openers and six straight home openers. UNCG improved to 12-3 all-time on opening day.

Scott Rambo (0-1) suffered the loss for the Blue Hens allowing five runs in 3-2/3 innings of work.

Junior Danny McClure went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Jeremy Roulin, David Adams and Adam Deleo each had a pair of hits for the Spartans.

UNCG scored three runs in the second inning to open up a 4-0 lead. McClure drove in the first run on a double down the right field line that scored Deleo, who reached base on a walk. Two batters later, Mason drove in a pair of runs with a single to left field.

The Blue Hens scored their lone run in the fourth inning on an error by a Spartan infielder.

Game two of the three-game weekend series takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. UNCG will send redshirt sophomore Nick Starnes to the mound, while Delaware will counter with Jason Rogers.
