UNCG Baseball Completes Three-Game Sweep of Apppalachian State; Defeats Mountaineers, 11-4

Jeremy Roulin went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI

GREENSBORO, NC – Senior Jeremy Roulin went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a home run as the UNCG Baseball team defeated Appalachian State, 11-4 on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The win gives the Spartans a three-game series sweep of the Mountaineers. The win also extends UNCG's winning streak to eight games.

 

UNCG (31-17, 17-10 SoCon) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. The first three batters of the inning reached base on a base hit. Jay Maule reached on an infield single then advanced to third on David Adams' double to center. Danny McClure brought in the first run on a single to left field. Adams, who went to third on the single, scored on Adam Deleo's sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Roulin laced a double in the gap in left field to score a pair of runs. He then scored on a single to right by Jake Linney

 

The Spartans extended their lead in the fourth with three runs to make it an 8-0 game. Roulin plated the first run on a solo home run to left field. The home run for Roulin was his second in the series and third on the season. Chris Mason reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a throwing error and scored when Justin Crist reached base on a fielding error by the ASU third baseman. Crist would score one batter later on Maule's double to right center.

 

Appalachian State (10-39, 5-21 SoCon) got on the board with a three run sixth inning that was capped off by a two-run home run by Brad Peisel. Peisel went 2-for-4 on the day with two runs scored to lead the Mountaineer attack.

 

UNCG added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to 10-3 and put the game out of reach.

 

Freshman Adam Krieger went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits to improve to 4-1 on the season, while junior Patrick Currin picked up his sixth save of the season. The right-hander from Chapel Hill, NC, went 3.1 innings allowing one run on four hits. Taylor Craig suffered the loss for Appalachian State. The left-hander falls to 1-7 on the season.

 

With the win, the Spartans remain in third place in the SoCon and are now a half a game behind Georgia Southern for second place. UNCG closes out the regular season with a three-game series at College of Charleston beginning on Thursday, May 19 at 6 pm at Patriots Point. Appalachian State closes out the season with a three-game home set with Elon starting on Thursday.
