Sean Guite Named Baseball Volunteer Assistant Coach

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball head coach Link Jarrett announced the addition of former Spartan Sean Guite to the coaching staff as this year's volunteer assistant coach. Guite joins the Spartan coaching staff that includes Jerry Edwards and Joey Holcomb

“We are very fortunate to have Sean Guite return to our program,” Jarrett said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete at UNCG as an All-SoCon First Team performer and he represents our baseball program extremely well in every way. He has always been a student of the game and tireless worker while embracing our offensive and defensive concepts. Sean will add a great deal to our coaching staff from an on-field and administrative standpoint.”

Guite was a two-year letterwinner for the Spartans from 2013-14, playing in 68 games for UNCG at third base. He earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors as a senior when he posted a .366 batting average with 74 hits. He led the team with 52 runs scored and 15 doubles while also posting three home runs and driving in 21 runs. He recorded 21 multiple-hit games as a senior and tallied a 13-game hitting streak during the year while finishing with a .440 on-base percentage.

Guite additionally was a standout in the classroom, earning Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors as a senior and was a two-time SoCon All-Academic selection. Additionally, he was a two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll recipient. He earned his degree in 2014 from UNCG in sociology.

Prior to UNCG, Guite spent two years at Irvine Valley College in California. He was a two-year starter at Irvine Valley, including posting a .327 batting average as a freshman with 37 hits. He posted 31 hits his sophomore season, including a .536 batting average (15-of-28) as a leadoff hitter.

Guite was a three-year letterwinner at Huntington Beach High School where he was named the school's Athlete of the Year during the 2009-10 academic year … He helped his team make the program's first-ever appearance in the C.I.F. Championship game in the school's 100-year history of baseball. He garnered First Team All-Sea View League honors as a senior. He earned a pair of varsity letters in football, holding school records for the most passing yards in a career, most touchdown passes in a game and career, most passing completions in a game, season and career and longest passing touchdown in a game. 

Guite spent the fall working as an instructional assistant in special education at the Ocean View School District.
