Greensboro, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team welcomes UNC Asheville to Fleming Gymnasium Monday, November 14, at 5:30 p.m. Monday nights matchup marks the 18th meeting between the two in program history.
UNCG leads the all-time series 14-3 but the Bulldogs have won the last two meetings. The Spartans host UNC Asheville for the first time since November 24, 2007, in which UNCA defeated the Blue & Gold 77-70.
The Spartans are coming off a 77-34 win over Brevard (0-1) last Saturday. UNCG held the Tornados to program-record 34 points during the Division I era and just 12 points in the first half. Bailey Williams (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) had a team-high 17 points while three other Spartans scored in double figures.
Asheville lost its season opener to Virginia Tech (1-0), 71-52, Friday night. KJ Weaver led the Bulldogs with 15 points and nine rebounds while Chatori Major, who led the squad in eight statistical categories a season ago, dished out a team-best three assists.
In last year's meeting, departed Spartan Lucy Mason led all scorers with 17 points. She was the only member of UNCG's squad to score in double figures in the 95-52 loss. Gena Penick (Amherst, Va./Louisburg) led the Spartans with nine rebounds and seven points in 15 minutes of action.
