Women's Basketball Faces Tennessee Tech in First Road Game of the Season

Greensboro, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it faces Tennessee Tech Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m. (ET). UNCG and TTU are both 1-1 this season and will face off for just the second time in program history Thursday.

Last season in the inaugural meeting between the Spartans and Golden Eagles, TTU defeated UNCG 73-64 in Greensboro.

UNCG looks to bounce back after its first loss of the season. The Spartans began the week with a 77-63 home loss to defending Big South Champion UNC Asheville inside Fleming Gymnasium. Head coach Trina Patterson coached the Blue & Gold to a season opening win over Brevard November 12. It marked the Spartans first win under Patterson.

Freshman Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads the Spartans with 14.5 points per game. She had a game-high 25 points against UNC Asheville scoring 17 points in the second half. Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) is averaging 12.5 points per game. She has scored double figures in both games thus far and blocked a career-high four shots against the Bulldogs Monday night.

Point guard Alexis Pitchford (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) is the third Spartan averaging over 10 points per game. She has dished out a team-best 13 assists this season and is shooting 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

As a unit, UNCG is shooting 40.6 percent from the field and is holding opponents to 17.6 percent from behind the arc. The Blue & Gold has been dominant on the boards out-rebounding its opponents by an average of 9.5 boards per game.

Tennessee Tech also holds a 1-1 record this season. The Golden Eagles lost their season opener to Wright State, 65-54, before bouncing back with a 54-41 win over Tennessee Wesleyan last Monday.

Taktavia Hickson leads the Golden Eagles with 14.5 points per game. She is shooting 44 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line through TTU's first two contests. Hannah Goolsby and Lindsey Kennings both average over six rebounds per game. This season, the Golden Eagles are shooting 54 percent from the field but just 18.5 from three-point range.
