GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team (2-2) returns home to Fleming Gymnasium Tuesday night to host UNC Pembroke (Division II) at 7 p.m. The Spartans enter Tuesday night's game after posting a 1-1 record this past weekend with a win over Tennessee Tech and a loss at Murray State. Pembroke is 2-0 this season following wins against Coker and Fayetteville State.
Tuesday's matchup marks the seventh time the two meet in program history. The Spartans lead the series 4-2. In the last meeting, UNCG defeated UNC Pembroke 77-68 December 10, 1990.
UNCG is averaging 68.6 points per game through its first four games. The Spartans are outscoring opponents by an average of six points per game and have held the competition to 25 percent from three-point range.
Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads the team with 19.8 points per game while Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) is putting 10 points per game on the board for UNCG.
Te'ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central) has led the team in rebounds in each of the last two games and is averaging a team-best 8.3 boards per game.
Alexis Pitchford (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) leads the Spartans with six assists per game and set a career-high 10 assists against Tennessee Tech last Thursday. Her 10 assists against the Golden Eagles ranks tied for eighth all-time in the Spartans single-game record books.
The Braves have four players scoring in double figures. Led by Jonissa Monley who is putting up 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Jasmine Huntley and Ebone Stevens each are averaging 12 points per game while Blair Silliman is averaging 11 points per game.
UNC Pembroke is averaging 74.5 points per game and is shooting 42 percent from the field. The Braves are 42.9 percent from downtown (13-for-35) this season and have held their opponents to just seven three-pointers in two games (.200).
