GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG welcomes Radford (3-1) to Fleming Gymnasium Friday night for a 7 o'clock tip-off vs. the Highlanders. The Spartans (4-3) are looking to improve to 4-1 on Lynn Agee Court this year.
Friday night's matchup marks the 19th meeting between UNCG and Radford. The Spartans hold an 11-7 advantage in the all-time series. The Highlanders have won the last two meetings, however. UNCG posts a 6-1 record against RU at home with its lone loss coming in the most recent meeting, a 76-64 defeat November 13, 2012.
UNCG is looking to bounce back after an seven-point, 60-53, loss on the road at Maryland-Eastern Shore Tuesday night. The Blue & Gold has won two-straight games at home against UNC Pembroke (Nov. 22) and Greensboro (Nov. 27). In the Blue & Gold's last game inside Fleming, the Spartans tied a program record for largest margin of victory in the Division I era with a 57-point win over cross-town foe Greensboro. That same game, UNCG also set a program record for fewest points allowed (26).
Freshman Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) is leading the Blue & Gold with 19.1 points per game while Shanese Harris (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) is averaging 10 points and four rebounds a game.
The duo of Te'ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central) and Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) are averaging 7.0 and 6.3 rebounds per game helping UNCG to average 45.0 boards per game.
The Blue & Gold is outworking its opponents by average of 6.6 rebounds and 11.0 points per game. UNCG is shooting 39.6 percent from the field and has held opponents to 25.8 percent from three-point range this season.
Radford is 3-1 with its only loss coming by way of George Mason in the season opener. The Highlanders are riding a three-game win streak entering Friday night's matchup and are led by Destinee Walker who is averaging 13.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
