HOUSTON, Texas – There are only 17 teams still playing Division I women's basketball and on Sunday two of them will duke it out for the Women's Basketball Invitational Championship when UNCG takes on Rice at 5:00 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The game will be streamed live online for free via CUSA.tv. Links to all live coverage options are available at UNCGSpartans.com.
The Spartas advanced to the title game with a 59-49 victory over Milwaukee on Thursday at Fleming Gymnasium. With the win, UNCG cracked the 20 wins mark for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) scored a game-high 20 points, while posting four rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Bailey Williams (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) added 15 points and five boards.
The Owls took down Idaho in the semifinals on Tuesday, winning by an 86-80 margin. Rice has played within the comfy confines of Tudor Fieldhouse for the entirety of its WBI run, taking down Lamar in the first round and besting UTRGV in the quarterfinals.
Rice boasts a 21-13 record, including a 12-5 mark at home. The Owls went 8-10 in Conference USA play. Jasmine Goodwine leads the way at 12.8 points per game, while also grabbing a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game. Nicole Iademarco adds 12.1 PPG, while Shani Rainey averages 11.6 points per contest. Running the point, Maya Hawkins averages 10.1 PPG and dishes out 5.1 assists per game.
One way or another the season will end for UNCG Sunday evening. If everything goes well for the Spartans, they'll be bringing a championship trophy back to the Gate City.
