GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a battle for Old North State supremacy, UNCG welcomes North Carolina Wednesday to the UNCG Softball Stadium for a midweek battle at 5:00 p.m.

The game will be the 56th all-time meeting between the Tar Heels and the Spartans, with North Carolina holding a 47-8 series lead. The two sides met a year ago, with UNCG falling 5-2 to its neighbor to the east.
The Spartans are riding high coming off of a 4-0 weekend at the Bailey Memorial Tournament in Kennesaw, Ga. UNCG defeated host Kennesaw State and Akron at the tournament, sandwiched by a pair of wins over UAB.
Emily Acquaviva (New Hartford, N.Y./Stony Brook) was hot from the plate, registering a .417 batting average last week with two doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and three RBIs. The sophomore center fielder posted a .588 on-base percentage and slugged .833.
Freshman Kylie Bouplon (Wilson, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) earned three wins during the week, striking out eight batters and posting a 4.04 ERA.
The Spartans hit six home runs during the week, making the season total for the Blue and Gold 21, a Southern Conference-high.
The Tar Heels are 15-4 on the season and are winners of their last 10 contests after completing a sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference foe Pittsburgh over the weekend. UNC will take on Charlotte on Tuesday before making the trip to Greensboro.
UNC is led at the plate by Katie Bailiff, who has recorded a hit in over half of her at bats with a .510 batting average. Bailiff has cranked out five home runs and eight doubles, coming in with a .980 slugging percentage. As a team the Tar Heels are batting .325 with 60 extra-base hits.
In the circle, Brittany Pickett maintains a 7-0 record with a 2.64 ERA, striking out 48 while allowing just seven walks. Opponents are batting .255 against the lefty, striking for nine doubles and five home runs.
