LONDON, England – On Wednesday, UNCG track & field alum Paul Chelimo advanced to the finals in the 5,000 meters at the 2017 IAFF World Championships. 

Just a few weeks after dominating the National Championships, Chelimo suffered a bit of a scare with four laps to go in his heat, tangling with Kenyan runner Cyrus Rutto and falling.

The Spartan legend kept a cool head and recovered to finish with the eighth fastest time, qualifying for the final in 13:24.88.

Chelimo will look to add to add to his trophy case on Saturday as he and the other 14 qualifiers return to the Olympic Stadium to race in the finals at 3:20 p.m.
