Spartans Shine at Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) track teams competed at the two-day Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
 
Freshman Samuel Barnard earned a first-place finish in the 800-meter open race. He took the top time of 1:55.60 in the event out of 19 competitors, earning a new personal best time.
 
Sophomore Vicky Sosa competed in the 3000-meter run for the fourth time this indoor season. Sosa has shown progression each time and this time was no different. She clocked in a personal best time of 10:08.32 finishing fifth out of 31 competitors.
 
Junior Andrew Hamilton also clocked in a personal best time. He competed in the 800-meter invite event, taking home 20th place out of 34 competitors with a time of 1:54.19.
 
Freshman Khalid Abdullahi and sophomore Lane Prochaska both competed in the mile. Abdullahi ran a personal best time of 4:23.18, finishing 23rd out of 42, while Prochaska clocked in a time of 4:25.46 placing 28th.
 
Junior Ethan Long ran a personal best time of 14:55.84 in the 5000-meter run. He finished eighth out of 14 competitors. Sophomore Evan Pena also ran in the event clocking in a personal best time of 15:12.00 placing 13th overall.

The Spartans will send individuals to the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Saturday, February 17 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. for one final meet before postseason competition.
