LEXINGTON, Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's & women's track teams competed on day one of the 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the VMI Corps Physical Training Complex on Saturday.
Freshman
Khalid Abdullahi earned All-SoCon Freshman team honors, while two Spartans earned a spot in the 800-meter finals.
Andrew Hamilton and
Samuel Barnard will both move on to the 800-meter finals, set for tomorrow, Sunday, February 25. The top three from each heat and then the next two qualified for finals. Hamilton finished third overall out of 12 competitors and third in his heat with a time of 1:54.73. Barnard clocked in a personal best time of 1:55.47 taking second in his heat and sixth overall.
Evan Pena and Abdullahi took home top-10 marks in the 3000-meter run. Pena finished seventh out of 12 with a time of 8:40.21, while Abdullahi placed ninth with his time of 8:44.92.
As the only female Spartan to compete in the Championships,
Vicky Sosa earned a top-10 mark in the 3000-meter run, finishing sixth out of 10 competitors. She ran the event in a time of 10:14.58.

The SoCon Championships resume Sunday. Track events will begin at noon. Day two will air on ESPN+ starting at 12 p.m. ET.
