Three Spartans Earn Top-10 at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's track team wrapped up competition for the Spartans on the final day of the 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the VMI Cops Physical Training Facility on Sunday.
 
Freshman Samuel Barnard earned All-SoCon Freshman team honors bringing the total to two Spartans during the weekend being selected for the teams.
 
Barnard ran a new personal best time of 1:54.03 in the 800-meter finals event after qualifying with a sixth-place mark. Barnard placed fourth overall in the finals. Andrew Hamilton, who also qualified for the finals, finished sixth overall with a time of 1:55.31.
 
Ethan Long, who ran in the 5000-meter event, finished eighth overall out of 13 competitors. Long ran a time of 15:02.52 which bested his time from last years' SoCon Championships. He also bested his finish after placing 14th last year.
 
Up next
The NCAA will announce the field for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on NCAA.com on Tuesday. The meet will be held March 8-9, 2024, at The Track @ New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts.
 
The Spartans will open the outdoor track season at the Phoenix Invitational on Friday, March 22 in Elon, N.C. They will also compete in the Bob Davidson Team Challenge on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 hosted by High Point University.
