ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Phoenix Invitational on Friday at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track Complex to open the Spartans' outdoor season.
The Spartans saw four personal bests in the invitational and nine top-10 finishes.
Men
Three of the six Spartans that competed in the 1500-meter run ran personal best times on Friday. All Six Blue & Gold finished in the top 10 out of 58 competitors.
Andrew Hamilton led the way with a second-place finish with a personal best time of 4:00.95, while
Luke Ward placed third with a personal best time of 4:02.15.
Colin Keck was fourth overall, while
Lane Prochaska,
Khalid Abdullahi, and
Ethan Long rounded out the Spartans in sixth, seventh, and eighth place, respectively.
Freshman
Glodi Mvovi in his first collegiate event outdoors, placed sixth overall out of 36 competitors in the 800-meter run. He clocked in a time of 1:59.16.
Women
Shay Soukup and
Kaitlyn Harrison competed in the 800-meter run and finished eighth and 14
th out of 39 competitors, respectively. Soukup clocked in a time of 2:22.82, while Harrison ran a personal best time of 2:33.88.
Sophomore
Vicky Sosa ran a time of 4:46.36 in the 1500-meter run taking home third out of 33 competitors.
Up next
UNCG will head to High Point, North Carolina to compete in the Bob Davidson Team Challenge on Saturday, March 23 at Vert Stadium.
