GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will honor its senior class of 11 prior to the game against ETSU on Saturday, May 14.
Before senior day, we asked the senior class to reflect on their time in the blue and gold.
Our next senior is
Austin Koehn.
Koehn came to UNCG as a true freshman after being a four-year letter winner at Patterson Mill High School in Bel Air, MD.
In 177.1 innings pitched, he has appeared in 40 games, earning the start in 35. He has struck out 143 batters with 62 of them caught looking.
He struck out a career-high eight batters in the Spartan's 4-2 win over High Point during his sophomore season.
During his freshman season, he was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week and earned a spot on the Coaches All-SoCon Freshman Team.
Last year, Koehn was named to the All-SoCon Honor Roll. He will graduate this month with his Bachelor's in Business Administration.
Why did you choose UNCG?
I chose UNCG because I have always wanted to go down south to play college baseball. Also when I came on a visit once, I stepped foot on campus and saw the facilities and the special bond the players had on the field. I knew this was somewhere I wanted to spend my next 4 years.
What has been your favorite baseball moment at UNCG?
IIt's hard to pick one favorite moment at UNCG so I would just have to go with being given the opportunity to perform at the highest collegiate level as a freshman until now. The friendships I have been able to form will last a lifetime.
What piece of advice would you give to future Spartans?
The best piece of advice I can give to future Spartans is to cherish the time you have here and to make the most of it. Don't take anything for granted because, before you know it your time here will be up.
What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for the person I was on the field with my play and also as a mentor for the younger guys on the team. When I was new to college, I know how much it meant for the older guys to help me out and how much that benefitted me, so just being able to return that and have the same effect on some of the younger guys now is my number one goal.
