SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro picked up its first Southern Conference win of the season with a 69-52 victory over Wofford in women's basketball action tonight at Benjamin Johnson Arena. Eaton, from Wheeling, WV (Wheeling Park HS), capped off a rather poor shooting effort in the first half by both teams by knocking down a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:41 to send the Spartans into the break up 32-26. In contrast to Eaton's long range efforts, the two clubs opened the stanza by combining to shoot 1-for-13 from the floor in the opening 5:19. For the half, UNCG shot 35.7 (10-for-28) percent, while Wofford shot 30.8 (8-for-26) percent.
Wofford began the game on a 10-1 run over the initial six minutes, but the Spartans answered back with a 14-5 spurt to square the contest for the first time, 15-15, at the 6:20 mark. The game remained tied 26-26 with 2:03 remaining before Eaton rattled home her 3's.
UNCG will return to South Carolina on Sunday, January 2 to take on Furman in a SoCon tilt in Greenville at 3 pm. Meanwhile, Wofford will visit league rival Elon on Sunday at 2 pm.
