CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team shot just 24 percent from the floor and was out-rebounded 56-40 Monday as College of Charleston completed the season series sweep with a 63-43 Southern Conference victory at TD Arena.

Senior forward Sidnei Harmon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) posted her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds (nine offensive) to pace the Spartans in both categories. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Jessica Collins (Raleigh, N.C./Eckerd College) nailed a trio of three-point field goals to end up with nine points.

The Cougars shot 34 percent overall (22-for-65) and used 21 offensive rebounds to score 12 second-chance points. College of Charleston also excelled in the paint, racking up 28 points to UNCG's 16. The teams combined for 35 turnovers and just 13 assists in a sloppily played contest. The Blue and Gold also struggled from the foul line, hitting just 11 of 22 attempts.

Afreyea Tolbert opened the scoring with a layup before Harmon responded with a jumper to knot the score at the 19:04 mark. A pair of free throws by Latisha Harris made the score 8-4, but UNCG answered by scoring seven of the next nine points to take an 11-10 lead. The run was capped off by a Collins three as the clock showed 11:08.

The Spartans did not score again until the 7:06 mark when sophomore guard Jarae Savage (Marietta, Ga./North Cobb) put in a layup off an assist from freshman guard Ebona Goins (Greensboro, N.C./Dudley). However, by then the Cougar advantage had grown to 20-13. A jumper by Harmon cut the College of Charleston lead down to 22-17, but two Alyssa Frye free throws ended a 7-1 run which left the home team with a 29-18 cushion as the clock ticked down to 1:42.

UNCG was able to pull within nine with three seconds left when junior guard Breonna Patterson (Greensboro, N.C./Dudley) was fouled a hit one of two free throws, leaving Charleston with a 29-20 halftime edge.

Tolbert and Harris both scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes to pace the Cougars while Harmon had six for the Spartans. College of Charleston shot 33 percent in the period and held a 25-22 advantage in rebounds.

Junior forward Janae' Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) dropped in a pair of foul shots to draw UNCG to within eight as the second half began. A jumper by Jillian Brown pushed the Cougar lead back to 10 at 36-26 with 15:53 left in the game before Collins hit another triple to make it 36-29 and give the Spartans life.

Another scoring drought, this time four minutes long, doomed UNCG as Jazz Green hit a free throw to push the score to 46-29 with 11:09 on the clock. A three by freshman guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) made it an 11-point game with 6:16 left, but the Spartans would come no closer the rest of the way.

UNCG's road trip continues Saturday, Feb. 9 as the Spartans travel to Birmingham, Ala. for a matchup with Samford. Tipoff at the Pete Hanna Center is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the game will be shown on ESPN3.
