Women's Tennis Falls to No. 3 North Carolina, 4-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The UNCG women's tennis team faced off against another ACC opponent Wednesday evening falling 4-0 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Spartans were handed their second loss of the season while the No. 3 Tar Heels are 2-0.

UNC took the doubles point to go up 1-0.  At No. 3 doubles, Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) and Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) fell 6-0 to Tessa Lyons and Laura Slater.  Yasmin Franco(Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) fell 6-2 to Caroline Price and Hayley Carter at No. 1 doubles. The two victories earned the Tar Heels the point leaving Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School) and Devon Sutherland's (Lake Wylie, S.C./Clover) match against Jamie Loeb and Ashley Dai at 3-2.

Franco battled Carter, the number fifth ranked singles player in the country,  at the No. 2 singles spot. Carter earned North Carolina its second point of the evening with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Grinberg played Tessa Lyons at the No. 4 singles matchup. Lyons earned UNC another point in two sets, 6-0, 6-1.

At No.1 singles, Falcon took on Loeb, who is currently ranked second in the nation. Loeb won the point in two sets winning 6-0, 6-0, earning the Tar Heels their fourth point of the match. The fourth point would be enough to take the victory.

Gammie and Price played at the No. 3 singles slot. Gammie took two of the games in set one but fell 6-2 and was down 3-0 in set two when the match was complete.

Ellis took on Kate Vialle at the No. 5 singles position. Vialle held the lead at 6-1, 4-1 when Loeb earned the clinching point over Falcon.

Sutherland and Laura Slater played at the No. 6 singles spot. Sutherland won three games in the first set but Slater took the set 6-3. Slater was up 1-0 in set two when the match was over.
