GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team posted its best round of the Fighting Camel Fall Classic Tuesday afternoon in the final round of the three-day, 54-hole event to move up to 13th place overall at the Keith Hills Golf Club. This week's event in Buies Creek marks the end of the fall season as the Spartans will not be back on the course for competition until February 6 at the Lady Bulldog Individual.
The Spartans finished the event in 13th place after carding a 322 in the final round Tuesday. UNCG finished at 115-over par 979 (330-327-322), catching Radford on the final day of the event. Tournament host Campbell won its home event with a 38-over par 902 (306-301-295), winning by 17 strokes over Old Dominion. Mary Janiga of Mercer took home the individual title with a 1-under par 215 (72-73-70), the only score under par in the 84-person field.
Junior Emily Kurey (Alpharetta, Ga./Louisville) wrapped up a solid event with a 39th place finish, posting her lowest round of the week Tuesday with a 4-over par 76. Kurey finished the event at 22-over par 238 (81-81-76). Junior Maddi MacClurg (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) was the Spartans' second finisher playing as an individual. MacClurg finished tied for 45th with a 24-over par 240 (84-80-76), closing the week with her lowest round at 4-over par 76.
Sophomore Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) also finished in a tie for 45th overall at 24-over par 240. Kershaw posted rounds of 83-80-77, finishing the week with her best round as well. Junior Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) placed 65th overall at 33-over par 249 (84-81-84). Freshman Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) finished in 71st place at 38-over par 254 (82-85-87) while senior Jessica Madsen (Slingerlands, N.Y./Daytona State) was 78th at 45-over par 261 (85-91-85).
Joining the Spartans in the field include host Campbell, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, High Point, Marshall, Mercer, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Nova Southeastern, Old Dominion, Radford, Stetson and Western Carolina.
