DAVIDSON, N.C. – The UNCG men's tennis team won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 road victory against Davidson Wednesday at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Spartans improve to 7-7 on the season and Davidson falls to 11-5.
In doubles, UNCG won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and senior Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) earned a 8-2 win against Evan Watkins and Jack Riazzi at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, Artem Khrapko and David Hager defeated junior Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and senior Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale), 8-5.
In the final doubles match, sophomore William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and classmate Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./The Early College at Guilford/Longwood) outlasted J.B. Gough and Jordan Hart, 8-7 (8-6), at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Phillips won in straight sets against Shamael Chaundhry, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Thompson earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Khrapko at No. 2 singles.
Albright clinched the victory for UNCG with a straight sets win against Hard, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Davidson earned its lone point after Hager defeated Bryan, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Smith gave UNCG a 5-1 lead after defeating Ricky Saad, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. In the final match, Mack edged Gough, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (10-5) at No. 3 singles. Mack rallied to win the second set tiebreaker 7-1 and won the third set super tiebreaker 10-5 to secure the Spartans sixth point of the match.
The Blue and Gold return home to host The Citadel Sunday, March 29 at noon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
