GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's tennis team earned its first 7-0 sweep of the season against The Citadel Sunday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans have won two-straight matches and are 8-7, 1-3 in conference play. The Citadel falls to 2-22, 0-3 in SoCon action.
In doubles, UNCG won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and classmate Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./The Early College at Guilford/Longwood) defeated Peter Bleach and Jackson Pride, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and senior Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) clinched the point with a 8-4 win against Artemie Amari and Nick Bradley, 8-4.
In the final doubles match, junior Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and senior Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) took down Oliver Dedding and Ryan Templet, 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, junior Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) returned to the lineup and won easily against Pride, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Albright also didn't drop a game defeating Joe Bove, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Smith clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Dedding at No. 4 singles.
Thompson won in straight sets against Bradley, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Phillips continued his hot streak at No. 1 singles earning a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win against Amari.
In the final match, Mack outlasted Bleach, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 3 singles to complete the 7-0 sweep.
The Blue and Gold head to Boone, N.C. to take on Appalachian State Tuesday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m.
