GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's tennis team fell to conference leader Samford, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans drop to 8-9 on the season and are 2-2 in conference play. Samford improves to 11-8 with a perfect 5-0 record in SoCon action.
In doubles, the Bulldogs won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Stephanie N'tcha and Carita Moolman defeated senior Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School) and freshman Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School), 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, Yasmeen Ebada and Jessica Northcutt clinched the doubles point with a 8-4 win against senior Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and freshman Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X).
In the final doubles match, sophomore Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) and junior Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School) lost to AnnMarie Lyon and Savannah Wood, 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Iva Parapunova defeated Blythe in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Wood gave Samford a 3-0 lead after a 6-1, 6-2 win against junior Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) at No. 6 singles.
N'tcha clinched the victory for the Bulldogs after defeating Gammie, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Northcutt took down Anane, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Ebada won in straight sets against Falcon, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. In the final match, Moolman defeated junior Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School), 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
UNCG finishes the regular season with three-straight conference road matches starting at ETSU Wednesday, April 15 at 2 p.m.
