Box Score Spartanburg, S.C.- The UNCG women's basketball team (8-20, 0-13 SoCon) lost its final road game of the regular season, 104-64, at Wofford (9-17, 3-9 SoCon) Saturday afternoon. The Spartans were led by Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) who had 18 points.
The Terriers took a 25-16 lead in the first half and kept pace in the second quarter outscoring the Spartans 23-18 in the second quarter. Wofford was 59.3 percent from the field in the first half while UNCG was 43.3 percent. The Spartans however connected on 4-of-7 shots from three-point range to average 57.1 percent from downtown.
Wofford had its most dominant quarter in the third when they held UNCG to 14 points while scoring 33 points. UNCG was unable to recover in the final ten minutes, being outscored 23-16 in the final frame. The win marked the highest-scoring victory in program history for Wofford in the Division I error.
Mason was the only scorer in double figures for UNCG while Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had seven points. Three other Spartans all tallied seven points apiece. Wofford was led by Kentra Washington who had 21 points while Maria Corella had 20 shooting 50 percent from downtown.
The Spartans return home for the final game of the regular season, Saturday, February 27, against Western Carolina. The UNCG staff will recognize four seniors, Mason, Jazmine Missouri (Largo, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross), Medena Bartley (Savannah, Ga./Beach) and Kaitlin Callahan (Windsor, Vt./Southern Maine) prior to the 2 p.m. tip-off.
