GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Men's Tennis took to the UNCG Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon for the first time of the 2016 season. The Spartans were able to defeat the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs by a 5-2 tally, for their third win of the season.
“It was a very good win today,” Men's Head Coach Jeff Trivette said. “We are startgin to play consistently on every court. The guys are really starting to gel as a team.”
The Spartans swept the doubles portion of the competition, with William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./The Early College) defeating Nikita Zuerkov and Yaroslav Prostakov 6-3. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland HS) took the No. 2 doubles 6-2 and Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) and Logan Walker (Stuart, Fla./Morningside Academy) took the No. 3 slot 7-5.
Thompson, Mack and Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) handled their business at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in the singles portion, each winning in two sets. Bryan also earned a win, clinching the match for the Spartans.
