GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Women's Tennis team suffered a 5-1 defeat to the Elon Phoenix on Thursday afternoon. The Spartans now fall to 3-4 on the season. The match was originally scheduled to be played at the UNCG Tennis Courts but was moved to the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
There were no doubles matches played in Thursday's competition. The Spartans dropped five of six singles matches with three being played through the third set. Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School), Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) all suffered three-set defeats. Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) earned the Spartan point on the afternoon. DeMoss defeated Natalia Janowicz 6-3, and 6-2 for the point.
