STATESBORO, Ga. – The UNCG Men's Tennis team earned a hard fought victory over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 6-5 on the season.
“This was a great team win for us” Head Coach Jeff Trivette said, “It was great to finish our spring break with such a hard fought victory. Danny (Mack) came back from a set and down 5-3 to win, and Ian (Melnik) won his first college match to clinch the victory”
UNCG started the afternoon off taking two of three doubles matches. Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) and William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) took No.1 7-6. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) took No. 2 6-4 to give UNCG the doubles point.
Albright took No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 7-6 tally. Mack fell in his first set 2-6, and was behind 5-3 before taking the next four to pick up the win 7-5 and eventually the match with a 6-2 victory in the final set. Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) won his first collegiate match at No. 6, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
