MACON, Ga. – The UNCG Women's Tennis team defeated the Mercer Bears 5-2 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 8-7 on the year and 2-1 in Southern Conference (SoCon) play. Mercer falls to 8-11 on the year, and 0-4 in SoCon play.
The Spartans fell behind early, dropping two of three doubles matches. Sarah Swiderski (West Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) took No. 2 doubles 6-4 but were unable to get the point.
UNCG used five victories in the singles portion of the match to earn the victory. Swiderski handled No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) got the win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) handled things at No. 4 singles in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Boaz and Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) took No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively, with Bridges using three sets to secure the win.
