BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UNCG Women's Tennis team fell to the Samford Bulldogs 7-0 at the Samford Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans fall to 8-8 on the season and are now 2-2 on Southern Conference play. Samford improves to 7-8, and 2-0 in the SoCon.
UNCG failed to record a victory in the match. Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) and Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) came close to earning a victory at No. 3 doubles, falling 7-6.
In singles action, Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School) dropped the No.1 spot 6-4, 6-3. Sarah Swiderski (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook) fell at No. 2 6-1, 7-5. Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) fell at No. 3 6-2, 6-2 with DeMoss suffereing a three-set loss at No. 4, 6-1, 1-6, 7-2. Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) and Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) also suffered losses at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively.
