GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Women's Tennis team opened up Southern Conference play with a 5-2 victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts on Friday afternoon. UNCG improves to 5-4 on the season, and 1-0 in SoCon action.
UNCG swept the doubles competition, taking all three events. Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Wood School) and Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) took No. 1 doubles 6-2. Sarah Swiderski (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and Blain Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) took No. 2, with Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) taking No. 3, each 6-2.
Swiderski, DeMoss and Grinberg all took their singles matches. Swiderski won No. 2 singles in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6. DeMoss and Grinberg each won in two sets; 7-5, 6-2 and 6-5, 6-2 respectively. Corrine Blythe (Leicester, Great Britain/Queenswood School) took No. 6 singles to secure the victory.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, Mar. 5th as they host the Chattanooga Mocs at the UNCG Tennis Courts with the action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
