CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNCG Men's Tennis team opened up Southern Conference play in Charleston, S.C. against The Citadel Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans took the match, 6-1 and improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in SoCon play. The Citadel is now 7-13 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon.
The Spartans earned the doubles point, sweeping the matches. William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) took the No. 1 competition 7-6. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) grabbed the No. 2 slot 6-4. Logan Walker (Stuart, Fla./Morningside Academy) and Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) iced the doubles portion, taking the No. 3 spot 7-5.
In singles action, UNCG took five of the six matches. Thompson won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0. Mack took No. 2; 6-1, 7-6 and Albright grabbed No. 3 6-0, 6-1. Gaston Murray (Lake Worth Fla./Park Vista) and Bryan rounded out the victories. Murray won after his opponent withdrew from the match. Bryan took No. 5 6-3, 6-3.
