GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain/Tile Hill Wood School), Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) competed in their final match of their UNCG tennis careers on Friday afternoon. UNCG fell to the Charlotte 49ers 5-2 on senior day, and fall to 8-12 on the season. Charlotte improves to 9-9 on the year.
The Spartans lost the doubles point, falling in two of three competitions. Sarah Swiderski (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) took No. 1. Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) and Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) fell at No. 2, with Grinberg and Ellis suffering a loss at No. 3, both 6-3.
In singles, Swiderski earned a point, taking No. 2 6-1, 6-2. DeMoss scored another point, earning a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. Anane fell at No. 1, 6-2, 1-1 before retiring. Ellis dropped the No. 3 match, with Grinberg falling in three sets at No. 6. Boaz rounded out the competition, falling at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4.
