GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Men's Tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to the Mercer Bears on Wednesday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. The Spartans fall to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference play. The Bears improve to 10-12 overall and 4-0 in the Socon.
UNCG couldn't obtain the point in the doubles competition, falling in two of three matches. Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) earned a win at No. 2, 6-4. Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) and Logan Walker (Stuart, Fla./Morningside Academy) fell at No. 3, 6-4. William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and Warren Bryan (Greensboro, N.C./Longwood) narrowly dropped the No. 1 match, 7-6.
In singles action, UNCG and Mercer split the three matches, with Mack, Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) and Albright earning wins. Mack took No. 2, 6-1, 6-2. Murray won No. 3 6-4, 6-3, and Albright won easily at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0. Thompson, Bryan and Walker each fell in two sets as the Spartans were unable to earn the victory.
