Men's Basketball Travels To Wofford Wednesday Night On ESPN3

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball team will put its six-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night when the Southern Conference leading Spartans travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a meeting against perennial league power Wofford. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the ESPN App with Mark Hauser and Thom Henson providing the call. Additionally, the game will be radio streamed on the TuneIn App and online at www.uncgspartans.com/radio.

The Spartans are off to their second-best start in program history at 16-5 overall and their best start in SoCon history with a 7-1 record. UNCG is alone in first place by a half game over Chattanooga and is riding a six-game winning streak. The Spartans have downed Chattanooga, Western Carolina, ETSU, VMI, Mercer and The Citadel during the run, their second six-game winning streak of the year.

UNCG enters Wednesday's game as the only team in the SoCon with an unblemished road record in league play at 3-0. The Spartans have road wins at The Citadel, at ETSU and at VMI. The Spartans are averaging 75.9 points per game this season while allowing 67.1 points per game against. UNCG is shooting 46.5 percent (573-of-1232) from the field and 39.9 percent (194-of-486) from 3-point land. Opponents are shooting 42.1 percent (478-of-1136) from the field and 35.5 percent (154-of-434) from deep.

Sophomore guard Francis Alonso (Malaga, Spain/Cushing Academy) leads the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Alonso leads the team with 59 made 3-pointers and is shooting 45.4 percent from distance. He is also second in the SoCon at the free throw line, hitting 90.3 percent (56-of-62). Senior guard Diante Baldwin (Greensboro, N.C./High Point Christian) is second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game. Baldwin leads the team with 93 assists and 40 steals. He is shooting 76.8 percent (53-of-69) from the free throw line.

Senior center R.J. White (Frisco, Texas/Frisco) is third on the team in scoring at 10.5 points per game and second on the glass grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game. White is shooting 53.3 percent (89-of-167) from the field but only playing 22.9 minutes per game mostly due to foul trouble. Junior forward Marvin Smith (Richmond, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) rounds out the double figure scorers at 10.2 points per game. Smith is fourth on the team in rebounding at 5.0 caroms per game and second on the team with 34 made 3-pointers.

Sophomore guard Demetrius Troy (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) chips in 8.8 points per game. Troy is second on the team with 79 assists and third with 33 made 3-pointers. Junior forward Jordy Kuiper (Groningen, Netherlands/Canaries Basketball Academy) tallies 6.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Redshirt freshman forward James Dickey (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) leads the team on the glass grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game while adding 5.9 points per game.

Wofford enters Wednesday's game with an 8-12 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Southern Conference play. The Terriers are coming off a 79-72 loss at ETSU Sunday, a loss that snapped a two-game winning streak. Wofford is 7-1 at home this season, including 3-1 in league play with its lone loss coming to The Citadel in overtime. The Terriers have also defeated Furman and VMI in league play while falling to Chattanooga, Samford, The Citadel and ETSU. Wofford is averaging 77.8 points per game while allowing 74.7 points per game. The Terriers are shooting 47.6 percent (549-of-1154) from the field and a SoCon best 41.2 percent (185-of-449) from 3-point land. Opponents are shooting 46.8 percent (528-of-1128) from the field and 32.4 percent (121-of-373) from distance.

Fletcher Magee leads the Terriers in scoring at 16.5 points per game. Magee leads the team with 60 made 3-pointers, connecting on 41.1 percent. He also shoots 85.9 percent (55-of-64) from the free throw line. Eric Garcia is second in scoring at 13.9 points per game and in assists with 119. Garcia is shooting 50.5 percent (47-of-93) from 3-point land and 93.3 percent (70-of-75) from the free throw line.

Cameron Jackson is third on the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game and second on the glass with 5.2 rebounds per game. Jackson is shooting 59.4 percent (95-of-160) from the field. Ryan Sawvell leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game and rounds out the double figures scorers at 10.8 points per game.

Wednesday's game marks the 36th meeting all-time between UNCG and Wofford. The Spartans trail the all-time series by a 24-11 margin but split the season series last year with each home team winning. The Spartans suffered an 87-73 defeat at Wofford early in the season before UNCG picked up a 65-61 victory over the Terriers a the Greensboro Coliseum. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Spartans against the Terriers.

In two games last year, UNCG connected on 50.9 percent (57-of-112) from the field, 26.5 percent (9-of-34) from 3-point land and just 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from the free throw line. Wofford connected on 43.2 percent (48-of-111) from the field, 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from 3-point land and 92.1 percent (35-of-38) from the charity stripe.

Baldwin led the Spartans in the two games last year against Wofford averaging 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He connected on 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the field. Smith averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game against the Terriers while White chipped in 12.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. White connected on 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the field.

Former Terrier Spencer Collins led Wofford in the series last season with 14.5 points per game, including five 3-pointers. Garcia averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 assists per game while hitting 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Magee chipped in 13.0 points per game, hitting 4-of-10 (40%) from 3-point land and hitting all eight of his free throws.
