Women's Tennis Soundly Defeats UNC Asheville at Home

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's tennis earned its first dual match victory of 2017 Saturday afternoon. The Spartans defeated the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, 5-2. UNCG improves to 1-2 on the season. The Bulldogs fall to 3-2 with the loss.

The Blue and Gold were able to earn the first point of the afternoon, taking two of the three doubles matches. The pair of Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) and Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) defeated Christin Louw and Lauren Watson-Steele, 7-6 (4). Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) and Sarah Swiderski (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) notched the clinching victory at No. 3 doubles, defeating Hunter Hall and Amalie Davidsen, 6-2.

The Spartans were able to pull away in the singles competition, winning four of the six matches. Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) notched a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 1 over Hannah Francisco. Swiderski earned an impressive victory at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3. Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) defeated Amalie Davidsen in three sets at No. 4, with Bridges rounding out the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Hall.
