SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG women's tennis suffered a 4-1 loss to the Mercer Bears Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center on the campus of Wofford College. The Spartans dropped the doubles competition and could won No. 6 singles but could not take the match. UNCG is eliminated from the SoCon Tournament and finishes the 2017 season 3-19.
The pair of Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) and Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) earned a 6-4 victory over the pair of Katie Sidor and Haley Powell at No. 2. Boaz and Bridges finish the 2017 season at 9-9. Sophia Adams (Miami, Fla./TERRA Environmental Institute) and Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) dropped No. 3 to Christie Cesarini and Marie Mottet, 6-4. Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) and Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) played tough at No. 1, but fell 7-5 as UNCG was unable to take the doubles point.
In singles action, Blythe earned the Spartan point. Blythe defeated Andrea Peteau, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6. UNCG fell in straight sets at No. 3, 4 and 5 and ultimately fell in the match. Taylor earned a win in her first set but was trailing in the second set as her match went unfinished. DeMoss played Katia Stravroulaki tough in two sets as her match at No. 1 also went unfinished.
