GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's tennis opened the home season Friday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts hosting the East Carolina Pirates. The Spartans came up short, falling 6-1. The Blue and Gold are now 0-2 on the season, while ECU improves to 3-1.

Doubles action got the day rolling as ECU took the first point. Lisa Hofbrauer and Celia Ruiz defeated Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) and Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X), 6-2 at No. 1. UNCG evened the scoring as Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) and Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) defeated Alisa Diercksen and Maria Gomez, 6-2 at No. 2. Hsia Ho Chiao partnered with Nastja Rettich to clinch the point, defeating Emily Ory (Lafayette, La./Louisiana Connections Academy) and Sophia Adams (Miami, Fla./TERRA Environmental Institute) at No. 3, 6-3.

Singles action saw UNCG fall at No. 1-5, but Brianna Gomez (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sara Sarjoo at No.6 for UNCG's lone point of the afternoon.
