GREENSBORO, N.C.– UNC Greensboro women's tennis (0-1) begins the spring season with a 7-0 loss to Liberty (1-1) Saturday in Piedmont Indoor Tennis Facility to start a four-game homestand.

Liberty won the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead after winning all three doubles matches. Liberty's double team of Lara Soares and Maria Medina defeated UNCG's doubles duo of Nancy Bridges and Emily Ory 6-2 at the No. 1 position, while Kalani Soli and Grace Hashiguchi defeated Sophia Adams and Erika Barquero 6-2 at the No. 2 position and Anna Dollar and Ashley Bongart defeated Brianna Gomez and Tayah Cross 6-2 at the No. 3 position.

The Flames took a 2-0 lead after Soares defeated Barquero 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position and took a 3-0 lead after Bongart defeated Eugenia Camacho 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles position.

Liberty clinched the match after Soli defeated Adams 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles position and took a 5-0 lead after Hashiguchi defeated Ory 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles position.

At the No. 2 singles position, Bridges won the first set 7-6 (4), but Medina won the final two sets 6-1 and 1-0 (3) to give LU a 6-0 lead.  At the No. 5 singles position, Alexandra Almborg won the first set 6-1, but Gomez won the second set 6-4 forcing a third set.  Gomez dropped a very close set 7-6 (7) to give LU the 7-0 win.

The Spartans continue the homestand with Coastal Carolina Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in Piedmont Indoor Tennis Facility.
