GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Ollie Palmer came through with a victory over Clarke Wilson for the UNCG men's tennis team, who suffered a 6-1 setback to Furman on Saturday, March 16 in Greenville, S.C.

Furman (9-3, 2-0 Southern Conference) grabbed the first point of the match after sweeping its way through doubles competition. The first win came by Henrik Atlevi / Drew Singerman, who downed Roger Rogowski / Ian Melnik by a 6-0 tally. The Paladins clinched the point as Clarke Wilson / Jake Bhangia posted a 6-4 victory against Jack Burkill / Hugh Knapp.

The final doubles pairing also went to the Paladins, as Ivan Mitric / Jake Munns earned a 7-6 (7-2) win against the tandem of Nico Grewe / Palmer.

Singerman snagged his second win of the afternoon as he triumphed 6-3, 6-1 over Melnik. Furman continued their solid play in singles as Atlevi closed out a 6-2, 6-2 win over Burkill in the meeting of No. 6 seeds.

Bhangdia clinched the team victory for Furman, the Paladins' eighth straight, as he posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Rogowski in the clash of No. 4 seeds. The Paladins' lead ballooned to 5-0 as 87th-ranked Mitric fought past Grewe by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

The final point for Furman came when Munns edged Knapp by a 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 score in the meeting of No. 3 seeds. Palmer closed out the day on a positive note for the Spartans (3-8, 0-2 SoCon) with his two-set victory.

The Spartans continue their weekend road swing on Sunday, March 17 when they head to Presbyterian to take on the Blue Hose at 2 p.m.a
