Spartans Conclude Road Swing With 5-2 Win Over Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The UNCG men's tennis team concluded its four-match road swing with a 5-2 win at Davidson on Wednesday, April 10th, picking up its seventh overall win and third on the road in the 2019 season.

UNCG (7-12) got off to a solid start as the tandem of Jack Burkill / Hugh Knapp opened with a 6-4 win in doubles action over Davidson's Yash Parikh / Alexander Loope. The Wildcats answered with a 6-3 win in the battle of No. 3 doubles as Douglas Macintosh / Camden Mazzoni defeated Roger Rogowski / Cooper Wyett.

With the doubles point hanging in the balance, the Spartans tandem of Nico Grewe / Ollie Palmer earned their 12th doubles win of the season by virtue of a 6-4 victory against Axel Fries / Matthew Rose.

Grewe claimed his second victory of the afternoon, this time in No. 2 singles, when he emerged with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Parikh. Brooks Green recorded the first Davidson point of the match in No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Burkill.

Sam Kavarana pulled Davidson (11-8) even with the Spartans with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Knapp, snapping the UNCG freshman's four-match winning streak in the process. UNCG moved back in front, 3-2, when Ian Melnik emerged with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Macintosh.

Freshman Roger Rogowski came through with a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory in No. 4 singles, clinching his ninth win of the season and the match for the Spartans. Palmer followed with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Fries to provide the fifth and final point of the match.

UNCG makes a quick turnaround, returning to action on Thursday when the Spartans host Elon at 6 p.m.
