Knapp Wins Fourth Straight Match in Men's Tennis at Mercer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman Hugh Knapp won his fourth consecutive match on Sunday, April 7th, at Mercer to account for the lone point for the Spartans, who fell 6-1 in the match.

Knapp's win came in singles action, where he downed Stathis Tsiranidis by scores of 6-3, 6-4. The Bears (10-11, 3-1 SoCon) grabbed the first singles win of the afternoon when David Georgadze posted 6-4, 6-4 win over Ian Melnik.

The Mercer lead reached 3-0 on the afternoon when Olivier Stuart came through with a 6-0, 6-1 win over fellow No. 1 seed Ollie Palmer. Fernando Guardia secured the Bears' win when he claimed a 6-1, retired-inj., victory against UNCG's (6-12, 1-5 SoCon) Jack Burkill.

Nicolas Guillon tallied the sixth and final point for Mercer with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nico Grewe, who was playing as the No. 2 seed for the Spartans.

Mercer grabbed the early advantage in the match when the tandem of Guardia / Carver Avant earned a 6-2 win over Melnik / Cooper Wyett in No. 3 doubles. Knapp teamed with Burkill to grab his first of two wins of the day as the duo posted a 6-3 victory over Tsiranidis / Georgadze.

The Bears secured the doubles point when the combination of Stuart / Guillon posted a 6-4 win over Grewe / Palmer in a clash of No. 1 doubles.

The Spartans close out their four-match road stretch on Wednesday, April 10th, when they head to Davidson for a 3 p.m. match with the Wildcats.
