GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's basketball (14-4, 3-0) is headed for Greenville, S.C. to go toe-to-toe with the Furman Paladins (12-6, 3-1), Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Spartans seek their ninth-straight win on the season and some separation among the top of the conference standings. Through 18 games, senior guard Nadine Soliman leads the way with 16.8 points per game (ppg). With 1,862 career points, she's just 46 off from breaking the program record, held by Lucy Mason (1,907 pts, 2012-2015).

LAST TIME OUT

The Spartans took care of business on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18), topping Western Carolina, 54-43. The win was the eighth-straight overall and 10th consecutive at home. UNCG was led by senior stretch-4 Alexus Willey who notched 12 points with four three-pointers. Defense was on display for the Spartans, as the held the catamounts to under 50 points. Their bench outscored Western Carolina, 29-7 and created a plethora of second chance opportunities. Te'ja Twitty came up one point shy of her 24th-career double-double (nine points, 12 rebounds). The senior forward eyes the program record (24), currently held by Melinda Gibson (1997-2000). 

SCOUTING FURMAN

The Paladins are led by Le'Jzae Davidson (14.4ppg) and Tierra Hodges (118ppg and 9.8rpg). Hodges' 177 total rebounds ranks T-21 in Division I. In conference play, Davidson has scored 14.3 ppg, good for fourth-best. Hodges has collected a whopping 12 boards per game, good for the best mark in the SoCon. Redshirt sophomore Milica Manojlovic has dished out 6.8 assists per game, along with 8.5 ppg. 

Furman is coming off a 52-60 road loss at the hands of Chattanooga. The Paladins had won four-straight contests heading into the matchup. Redshirt senior Taylor Petty racked up a season-best 21 points. Hodges tallied eight points and 14 rebounds to lead the way. 

SERIES HISTORY

-- Furman leads the all-time series, 24-25. Winners of the previous three matchups, the series dates back to the 1996-97 season. 
-- The Spartans last defeated the Paladins during the 2017-18 season in a double overtime thriller, 76-74, in Greensboro. 
-- UNCG's longest winning streak is six (2004-05 to 2007-08); Furman won seven straight matchups from 2013-14 to 2016-17. 
-- Last season, Furman swept the series, 2-0. The Paladins topped the Spartans, 61-64 in Greenville, S.C. (Jan. 10, 2019). They followed it up with a 49-59 victory in Greensboro (Feb. 9, 2019).

UP NEXT

-- The Spartans remain on the road in South Carolina for an afternoon matchup with Wofford (9-10, 2-2) on Saturday, January 25th. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. In conference games, Wofford boasts the top scoring offense (71.8ppg) and fewest turnovers (34). Last season, the sides split the series, 1-1.
