Soliman eyes scoring record in front of home crowd

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's basketball returns home for a matchup against the Mercer Bears (4-16, 1-4), Thursday night inside Fleming Gymnasium. The Spartans (15-5, 4-1) are off to their best start in 28 years (19-5; 1991-92). Nadine Soliman enters the game needing 18 points to set a new program scoring record (1,908).

LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Wofford Terriers. In Spartanburg, Aja Boyd scored a team-high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. It was the second time this season Boyd has led UNCG in scoring. Soliman and Te'Ja Twitty each netted 12 points.

-- Senior stretch-4 Alexus Willey has taken her shooting to another level this season. She sits 26th in the nation in three-point FG percentage (43.0); also good for 2nd in the SoCon

SCOUTING MERCER
-- The Bears are led by sophomore forward Jaron Dougherty (16.4 ppg); Dougherty was named the SoCon Player of the Week after back-to-back 20-point games last week. She netted 23 points vs. ETSU (Jan. 23), followed by a double-double performance of 29 points, 12 against Chattanooga on Saturday, January 25th.
-- Despite winning just one of their last 11 games, Mercer ranks No. 1 in the SoCon in blocks (87) and steals per game (9.0)

SERIES HISTORY
-- Mercer leads the all-time series, 12-0, dating back to the 1978-79 season. After their first matchup, the teams didn't faceoff again until the 2014-15 season, a 73-74 loss in Greensboro
-- Their last meeting occurred in Macon, Ga.; a 73-85 loss to the Bears. In that game, Soliman (21pts) and Te'Ja Twitty (15pts) were two of four Spartans to score in double figures
