UNCG Women's Basketball Takes On Elon

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's basketball (1-5, 0-0) takes to the road this Friday, matching up with former SoCon rival Elon (3-1, 0-0) for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Schar Center.

The Spartans are flying high after defeating rivals North Carolina A&T on Monday at Fleming Gymnasium. Head coach Trina Patterson's side has been improving on a weekly basis this season, coming up just short in a 60-55 final in their most recent road trip at UNCW. UNCG is still looking for that first win while playing as visitors, while the Phoenix are 1-0 when at home this year.

HOW'S THEIR FORM?
-- UNCG picked up its first win of the season on Monday, downing crosstown rival North Carolina A&T by a final of 49-46 in the 'Battle of the 'Boro'
-- Elon is coming off a home win against Furman on Sunday, its second win over a SoCon team this year. Their only loss in the current campaign came in a 76-47 decision on the road at NC State

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- The Spartans have a combined 28 assists over the past two matchups, after combining for a total of 24 in the four games prior
-- Senior guard CeCe Crudup led the Spartans with 16 points and eight rebounds against A&T, two boards shy of her first double-double. That performance came just three days after she collected 12 rebounds and eight assists against UNCW, where she was a pair of helpers shy of the first Spartan rebound-assist double-double in over two decades
-- UNCG has found their scoring touch on the outside in the past two games as well, hitting 17-of-43 (.395) in that span, with Pernilla Sorensen and Tori Powell responsible for six of those three-pointers apiece. As a team, the Spartans were just 17-of-73 (.233) from beyond the arc in the first four games of the season

SCOUTING ELON
-- Elon's defense thrives on creating turnovers, with its 23.3 forced per game ranking 15th in the nation and its 11.5 steals per game sitting 31st
-- Junior guard Kayla Liles leads the Phoenix with 14 steals this year, placing her first in the CAA and 33rd in the country. She is also one of three Elon players pouring in more than nine points a game (9.3), while shooting .500 from the floor

SERIES HISTORY
-- The Spartans lead the all-time series against the Phoenix with a 24-20 record all-time, but have not played against Elon since February 1, 2014
-- UNCG split its series with the Phoenix in the 2013-14 season, the last time Elon was still a member of the Southern Conference.
