Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spartans Come Up Short at Chattanooga

Soliman nets 24; Mocs hit seven from perimeter

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNCG women's basketball team (16-7, 5-3) dropped their second straight matchup for the first time this season, coming up short at Chattanooga, 59-74, on Thursday night. Two players scored double-digits for the Spartans, including a team-high 24 points from Nadine Soliman. Mocs guard Lakelyn Bouldin led all players with 25 points.

Soliman seemed to be in total control early on against Chattanooga (6-16, 5-3). With the milestone accomplishment in the rearview mirror, the Spartans standout went straight into attack mode and scored a quick 15 points to lead all players in the opening period. The Spartans led by as many as eight to open the game, maintaining the lead into the second quarter. Forward Abby Cornelius (12 points, six rebounds) helped Chattanooga keep up the pace with Twitty (10pts, 7rebs) and Boyd (6pts, 9rebs) in the paint. With a 15-3 run as the half winded down, the Mocs took their first lead of the contest at 32-31. The sides exchanged leads in the waning seconds of the half. Aja Boyd knocked down a pair from the line, but it was Chattanooga's Kallie Searcy who closed out the second with a lead changing pull-up jumper to give the Mocs a 36-35 lead at the break.

The Spartans came out of the locker room with a bit of a different look on the defensive end, opting for more zone sets. Soliman continued to get decent looks at the corners and finished a swift turnaround floater to give her 20 points on the night. An 8-0 run and three makes from long range kept the Mocs out in front, 54-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Bouldin and teammate Dena Jarrells (14pts, 7ast) combined for six threes and the Mocs pulled away down the stretch.

UP NEXT
The Spartans remain in the volunteer state, and will make the three hour trek to ETSU. Tip-off vs. the Buccaneers is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. UNCG took care of business in their last meeting, 63-47 in Greensboro. In that game, Twitty and Boyd both notched double-doubles en route to the win.
