GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's tennis gets to work on its spring campaign this Saturday, hosting Winthrop at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, with doubles play beginning at noon. Both programs will be looking for their first match win of the 2020 season, with the Spartans all but sweeping the Eagles in the pair's autumn meeting at Furman Fall Duals in October.Â

• While the Eagles are 3-2 against UNCG since 2011, the Spartans won their most recent matchup against Winthrop, 5-2 on February 17, 2018
• UNCG has won two of their last three matches against the Eagles when playing in Greensboro
THE SPARTANS
• The Spartans closed out the fall season at the UNCW Team Invite, combining for a dozen wins between singles and doubles play
• UNCG swept the Eagles in doubles play during Furman Fall Duals in October, while Ollie Palmer, Nico Grewe, Roger Rogowski, Cooper Wyett and Alexander Zuckerman all earned individual wins
• Grewe led the Spartans in wins during the 2019 spring campaign, with 11 overall. He finished 7-2 at the No. 2 seed, while playing 12 matches at the No. 1
• Palmer finished 7-4 when playing in the No. 2 spot last season, posting a 3-1 record in that seed when facing conference opponents. He combined with Grewe for a team-best 12 wins in doubles play
THE EAGLES
• While the Spartans are just opening their spring, the Eagles are prepping for their sixth match of the season, going winless against Davidson, Queens (Charlotte, N.C.), Furman, Navy and East Carolina
• Abhimanyu Vannemreddy leads the Eagles with three individual wins this season. Winthrop's No. 1 started the campaign 3-0 before dropping back-to-back decisions against Navy and East Carolina
COMING UP NEXT
The Spartans face their second Big South opponent of the week on Tuesday, engaging in their first road challenge of the spring at Radford. UNCG has won their last three matchups against the Highlanders, defeating the side 4-3 in the first week of the 2019 season.Â
