Spartans Prep For Pirates This Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis prepares for its third home match of the season this Saturday, hosting the East Carolina Pirates at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. Doubles play is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start as both sides look to improve on their 1-2 record to start the season.

WHAT TO KNOW
Who: East Carolina
Where: Greensboro, N.C. | Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center
When: Saturday, February 8th | 1 p.m.

MATCHUP HISTORY
• The Pirates lead the all-time series against UNCG, but are just 2-2 against the Spartans when playing in Greensboro, since 2011
Brianna Gomez collected a straight set victory in the Spartans' 2019 meeting in Greenville

THE SPARTANS
Erika Barquero is one of just five players in conference to play in multiple singles and doubles matches this season without experiencing a loss. She is the only player in the SoCon to claim this feat while playing strictly at the No. 1 seed/pairing
• Barquero and Hanna Giddings are one of just two duos in the Southern Conference with three-plus wins while playing in the top pairing. The other is Furman's Julia Adams and Katarina Kozarov, the No. 21 doubles team in the country
Sophia Adams has collected a 2-1 record while playing at the No. 2 seed this year, and is undefeated when playing in Greensboro
Brianna Gomez owns a 2-1 record as well, with her lone loss coming against Charlotte's No. 4 seed this past weekend

THE PIRATES
• ECU holds the same record as the Spartans this season at 1-2, however one of those losses came against No. 8 NC State to kickoff the spring season
• No. 1 seed Lisa Hofbauer collected her first individual win of the season two weeks ago at James Madison, taking down the Dukes' top singles player Daria Afanasyeva in straight sets

COMING UP NEXT
The Spartans have a quick turnaround this week, while embarking on their second road match of the spring season. UNCG will take the trip to Boone, N.C. this Tuesday, February 11th, to matchup with the Appalachian State Mountaineers. While ASU has won its last two contests against the Spartans, UNCG is 5-2 against the side dating back to 2012.
