Spartans Emerge Victorious Against Blue Hose

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's tennis emerges victorious in a closely held final against Presbyterian College, beating the visiting Blue Hose by a final of 4-3.

The Spartans took the doubles point for a third straight match, moving to 4-1 when grabbing the first point of a contest this year. Nico Grewe and Ollie Palmer combined for their fifth win together while playing as the top pairing, dropping PC's No. 1 by a final of 6-3. Jack Burkill and Hugh Knapp continued their impressive run in doubles play, grabbing their third straight match in the third seed, with a 7-5 victory to clinch the Spartans' first point.

Nico Grewe and Alexander Zuckerman both collected singles wins with the former winning in straight sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Zuckerman battled back against the Blue Hose' No. 5, dropping the first set 6-2, before delivering back-to-back 6-1 and 6-4 wins to secure the Spartans' third point.

Taking losses on courts two, three and six, the match final came down to Hugh Knapp at the No. 1, where the sophomore collected his fourth singles win of the season. Knapp took the opening frame against Max Benson 6-4, but would cede the following set by a final of 6-2. With both players trading shots in the third, Knapp emerged victorious with the slim 7-6 advantage, securing the 4-3 win for the home team.
