GREENSBORO, N.C. –The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team is ranked 25th in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll.
The Spartans (13-3-1 overall) returned to the poll after a two-week absence following victories over Longwood 3-1 and ETSU, 2-0 last week to finish the regular season. UNCG scored all its goals in the second half during each victory. The 13 wins are the most for UNCG since 2006.
UNCG is also ranked fifth in the South Region this week.
In the 3-1 win over Longwood, the Spartans got a goal and an assist each from
Theo Collomb and
J.C. Ngando.
Joey Skinner also scored for the Spartans in the win over Longwood. During their 2-0 road triumph over ETSU that secured the 2021 Southern Conference regular season championship,
Maycol Reyes and
Jack Birch scored goals.
Niclas Wild registered his ninth clean sheet of the season.
UNCG clinched the No. 1 seed in the SoCon men's soccer tournament. The Spartans shutout five of their six SoCon opponents this season.
The Spartans lead the country in goals (51), points (148), scoring offense (3.00), points per game (8.71), and goal differential (39). They are third in corner kicks per game (7.29), total assists (46), fourth in assists per game (2.71) and fifth in shutout percentage (0.588).
Collomb leads the nation with 15 goals and 35 points. He is one of 16 different players who have scored at least one goal this season for the Spartans. At least eight UNCG players have at least two goals. He is second nationally in goals per game (0.94) and points per game (2.19).
Ngando is ranked 13th in assists per game (0.57) and 16th in total assists (eight). Wild is second in shutouts (nine) and 12th in goals against average (.726). Skinner is 33
rd in the country in assists (seven).
UNCG returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 7 when it hosts a Southern Conference semifinal contest against the winner of the Belmont-ETSU match at 6 p.m.
