GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's basketball will host their 2021-22 season opener against UNC Asheville on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- The Spartans welcome back 10 faces from last season, including the trio of CeCe Crudup, Aja Boyd, and Pernilla Sorensen, who all used their Covid year to return. They also welcome sophomore Khalis Cain, who earned herself a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team in 2020-21.
--UNCG adds seven new faces to the squad, five freshmen and one transfer. This class is tied for Coach Trina Patterson's largest freshman class since taking over. The other six freshmen class was back in 2016-17, that included Te'ja Twitty and Nadine Soliman.
--The Spartans return their two leading scorers, Crudup (284 pts) and Cain (153 pts). Cain also led the Blue and Gold in rebounds with 195, 118 defensive and 77 offensive.
--Sorensen led the Spartans in three-pointers with 38 made. Crudup followed with 17, while Excellanxt Greer capped off the double-digit numbers with 10.

SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE
-- UNC Asheville finished the 2020-21 season with a 10-15 overall record, 9-10 in the Big South. They finished their season with a loss to Longwood in the conference quarterfinals.
--The Bulldogs welcome five new faces to the 2021-22 squad.

SERIES HISTORY
-- The Bulldogs lead the all-time series against the Spartans, 3-1. The last meeting was during the 2019-20 season, the Spartans won 67-40.
 
 
SEASON LOOK AHEAD
--Two of the next three games for the Spartans will be on home court. They will welcome Winthrop (Nov. 18) and Lenoir-Rhyne (Nov. 21).
--UNCG's lone Power Five contest of the season will be this Sunday when they head to Wake Forest to take on the Demon Deacons. The Spartans lead the series against Demon Deacons, 2-1.
--The Spartans return five starters from the 2020-21 season. CeCe Crudup was the lone Spartan to start in all 24 games last season. Khalis Cain, Amber Redmond, Jayla Johnson, and Pernilla Sorensen were all key starters.
--The Spartans will close out their non-conference slate with games against Davis & Elkins (Dec. 30) and Johnson C. Smith (Jan 2).
--The Spartans will face three conference rivals in their first four games. They open conference play on Thursday, Jan. 6 when they head to Greenville, S.C. to face the Furman Paladins.
--UNCG will head on a three-game road trip with stops at ETSU, Chattanooga, and Western Carolina. Coach Patterson is looking for another win against Chattanooga in their gym. She earned her first win inside of McKenzie Arena last season with a 58-50 win over the Mocs.
